Arrancar ArcEdit

Grimmjow and Ichigo first meet when Grimmjow invades Karakura Town without permission from Aizen. Ichigo is nearby Rukia Kuchiki, with her having just revealed her Zanpakutō Sode no Shirayuki. Directly after she killed D-Roy Rinker, Grimmjow appears and stabs his hand through Rukia's stomach. Ichigo tries to defend Rukia but is beaten down severely by Grimmjow, who reveals his placement as the Sexta Espada. Ichigo struggles with his inner hollow for a bit before releasing a Getsuga Tensho on Grimmjow, leaving a permanent scar that will be seen for the rest of his appearences, even when he reappears during the Quincy Blood War. Grimmjow is about to continue his fight, but is stopped by Kaname Tousen, who scolds Grimmjow for leaving without Aizen's orders and takes him back to Hueco Mundo. Grimmjow tells Ichigo not to forget his name- Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez.

Grimmjow is berated by Aizen, who is considerably less harsh than Kaname has implied it would be. Kaname then cuts off Grimmjow's left arm, rendering him weaker than to be in the Espada ranks. Luppi Antenor takes Grimmjow's place.

Grimmjow, Yammy, Luppi, and Wonderweiss are then sent on another invasion to Karakura Town, in order to distract the residents from Ulquiorra capturing Orihime. They appear right before Toshiro's reinforcements. Luppi comments on their luck before turning to Grimmjow, who disappears.

We later see that Grimmjow has gone directly to find Ichigo. Ichigo surprises him with his Visored powers, but they don't last very long. Grimmjow attempts to point-blank cero Ichigo. Rukia then appears and freezes Grimmjow, saving Ichigo momentarily. Grimmjow quickly breaks free and is about to point-blank cero Rukia, but Shinji then appears, hollowfies, and fights Grimmjow. Shinji appears to be winning after a powerful cero. Grimmjow attempts to resurrect but is blocked by Ulquiorra, who claims that the mission is over and that there is no more need for fighting.

Ulquiorra and Grimmjow are taken back to Hueco Mundo, and Grimmjow looks back at Ichigo before vanishing into the Garganta.
